Year 1

Welcome to Year 1's class blog!

We are learning all about the Victorians. So far...

  •  we have met Queen Victoria (in the ICT suite and imported pictures)
  • we went to the wedding of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert
  • we've looked at Victorian artefacts  - I think we liked the chamber pot best because it was funny.
  • we have painted portraits of the young Queen Victoria and the old Queen Victoria.
We looked in detail at this painting of the Coronation of Queen Victoria.

It was painted in 1839 by Sir George Hayter (1792-1871) and shows the Coronation of Queen Victoria at Westminster Abbey on 28 June 1838

This week we are looking at rich and poor Victorians.  The poor Victorian children had some awful jobs to do. I wonder if you can remember what each job was that the children did? There were bird scarers, the work house children, climbing boys, 'pure' collectors, mining children, ore washers, cloth makers, mud larks, matchbox makers and cress sellers  . After learning about the jobs - suddenly school seems fun!

Today, we wrote all about the climbing boys (chimney sweeps), I was very impressed with the details that you put into your work. We are going to look at the different houses in Victorian England, I wonder which you will like best?
